UNIVERSITY OF RWANDA

The University of Rwanda (UR) was created in 2013 as a result of the merger of seven public higher learning institutions with the objective of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of higher learning education. UR’s vision is to become a nationally, regionally and globally leading university which excels in teaching and research and plays a significant role in the development of Rwanda and contributes to finding solutions to global challenges.

This a time of great change for us as our 1 400 academic staff seek to find innovative ways to increase our efficiency and to improve our service to our 30 000 students and to our country. In short, we are on the move.

THE SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is one of the five Schools in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda. The School of Nursing and Midwifery educates nurses, midwives, and mental health nurses to provide competent and exceptional health care at the national, regional and international levels.

Our vision is to be a school of global influence and to inspire through innovative education.

Mission

To educate nurses and midwives to contribute to national and global health solutions through innovative education, practice and research by promoting lifelong learning, community engagement, and interprofessional collaboration.

Philosophy

We believe that for nurses and midwives to optimize health, individuals must be viewed holistically, as unique and interacting with their environment. Students must take primary responsibility for their learning through active engagement in the learning process. To facilitate this process, School of Nursing and Midwifery faculty will design educational opportunities to enhance knowledge and develop professional competence.
