Call For Abstracts

Theme: Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for Better Health and Improved Quality of Life – Shifting Perspectives and Transforming Care


Conference Dates: 27 – 29 September, 2017


Conference Purpose:

The 2017 University of Rwanda, School of Nursing and Midwifery 2nd International Nursing Conference goals, are to articulate and strategically examine evidence, models, programs, and services in health care delivery to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals adopted by world leaders in September 2015 to Transform Our World by 2030. The conference sessions will explore the SDGs in the context of enhancing universal health care coverage, examine access to health care, and evaluate the quality of life within a collaborative framework of health care delivery. The conference will highlight the SDGs as an interconnected web of opportunities to creatively approach through a collaborative systems perspective.

  • Full Paper Submission with revisions (if needed):                 Saturday 12th, August 2017

Abstracts should come from empirical studies, evidenced based interventions, programs, and service delivery to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Abstracts should explicitly describe research, interventions, programs and services to allow reviewers to evaluate the quality, originality, and thoroughness of the work. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the abstract review committee.

Abstract Specifications

  • Abstracts should be submitted in English.
  • Submit one copy of the abstract consisting of not more than 350 words in Microsoft word or Rich-Text Format.
  • The submitting author’s name should appear first. All correspondences will be sent to the submitting author via email.
  • Use the following abstract format (Indicate if your abstract should be considered for Oral or/and poster presentations):

Format of abstracts for oral presentation

  • Title of Abstract (bold): Clear, unambiguous and concise
  • Purpose or Objectives: State the purpose and objectives of the research/program/project, the hypothesis (if any) that was tested, description of the problem, significance/rationale.
  • Methods: Briefly describe project/study design, applicable population, sample size and sampling techniques; data collection and methods of analysis.
  • Results/Outcomes: Present the summary of the findings/results/outcomes in line with achievement of the objectives of the project.
  • Conclusions: Must be supported by the data or outcomes. Please include implications for achievement of sustainable development goals
  • Key words: List 5-7 words that describe the study.
  • Indicate if: Oral, poster presentation or both.

Presentation Format

  • An accepted abstract will be presented orally or as a poster.
  • Oral presentations will be grouped by topics and presented as scheduled in the final conference program.
  • Presenters will have 10 minutes for presentations followed by 5 minutes for questions and discussions.
  • Authors chosen for a poster sessions will be given two days to display their posters.
  • The final decision of whether a presentation will be an oral or poster presentation rests with the Scientific Committee
  • All accepted abstracts will be published in the electronic conference proceedings.

  • Prepare your abstract in compliance with the guidelines.

  • Include your complete contact information (Name, Qualification, Designation/Position, Institution, Country and email address).
  • Only abstracts following the format guidelines and containing complete contact information will be considered for the conference.
  • Acknowledgement of receipt will be sent within 3-5 working days following submission of the abstract

Guidelines for Preparing Posters

  • Suggested Poster Size – Width = 120 cm; Height = 85 cm
  • Border – There should be a border of at least 5 cm all around the poster.
  • Poster Number (to be assigned following review)
  • Title, Authors and Institutions – Place on the top of the poster.
  • Body of Poster – May include the abstract and pictures. Innovative designs are welcome
